Coaches Collective Happy Hours April 2022 session : The Ethics of Charging

Money is a measure of status, power and value. It is a touchy subject for many, and the source of deep emotions, conflicts, anxieties and shame. When we speak numbers, judgments follow. Issues involving the psychological impact of money are typically neglected. Here is a session where you have space to think aloud about your dilemmas around fees for coaching. For instance questions such as

• How should I set and communicate my fee to my client?
• Should I charge uniformly or be flexible?
• How do I understand the psychological impact of fee on the various stakeholders?
• Should I charge for the first session?

After an interactive discussion on these and other questions, participants will be introduced to an ethical thinking grid – a handy tool for thinking ethically about dilemmas. We then work through some of the challenges of the participants around the charging of fees using the grid.
