Developing Political Savvy

"I don't do office politics."

Have you ever said this? Or heard someone say it, perhaps with a hint of pride?

It’s understandable… because office politics is about manipulation, backstabbing, favouritism, sucking up to the boss and taking credit for other people's work.

And becoming politically savvy is often confused with becoming politically manipulative. We want to stay out of it - keep our head down and let our work speak for itself. Except that your work may not have a voice loud enough to be heard in all the right places!

The unfortunate truth is that wherever there are people, there are competing interests, limited resources, informal networks, unwritten rules and differing agendas. In other words, politics.

You can run, you can hide, but you can’t escape politics.

In the upcoming Fraternitea on Developing Political Savvy, we will explore how to navigate workplace politics without compromising our integrity or authenticity.

Through a case discussion, a little self-reflection and a network-mapping exercise, we will examine how politically savvy we really are (or aren’t!).
